Russian Institute takes delivery of AquaLine FerryBox for climate change studies

The Russian Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) has taken delivery of a Chelsea AquaLine Ferrybox system to undertake climate change studies. AquaLine is a generic, robust environmental monitoring system for ships of opportunity which provides real-time information on the environmental state of the surface waters through which the vessel passes.

'The AARI selected the AquaLine FerryBox system for use on its new ice class Arctic and Antarctic research vessel, the Academic Treshnikov, which will operate from Saint Petersburg to the Arctic and the Antarctic,' said Alexander Voronkov, Chelsea's representative in Russia. 'The ferrybox system is fitted with sensors to measure conductivity, temperature, pressure, Chlorophyll a, turbidity, dissolved oxygen and pH.'

The Russian Hydro-meteorological Committee plan to build another three polar research vessels which will carry similar oceanographic equipment to that of the RV Academic Treshnikov.

Richard Burt, Chelsea's Marketing Director commented "The AquaLine FerryBox system has been extremely successful. We have recently delivered two FerryBox systems to Russia, the first was to the Polar Research Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanography PNIRO, Murmansk, Russia".

Notes:  Established in 1920, AARI is the oldest and the largest Russian research institution in the field of comprehensive studies of the Polar Regions. It is ran by the Russian Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.
