Royal Navy use CTG sensors to improve situational awareness

SeaSoar Oceanographic Recorders in service with UK Royal Navy

CTG's S2115 oceanographic sensor system is in use on the RN Astute Class Submarine, HMS AUDACIOUS. Systems are also installed on HMS ASTUTE, HMS AMBUSH and HMS ARTFUL plus at the Shore Based Integration Facility.

The oceanographic sensors are  designed to provide improved situational awareness and enhanced knowledge of the ocean environment. The robust, high precision sensors incorporate novel built in test technologies to extend calibration intervals and decrease maintenance costs.

The system combines the outboard oceanographic sensors with the expendable bathythermograph system and acoustic modelling tools to provide an integrated environmental suite.  The system includes a shore-based facility. Industry collaborators include Ultra Electronics and Lockheed Martin.

Under a separate a nine and a half year contract Chelsea will provide post design services for support of the Trafalgar Class Sonar 2081 submarine oceanographic sensor suite, under the Miscellaneous Sonar Equipment programme.  The work, which includes service, repair and calibration, will be undertaken at Chelsea‚Äôs UK facility utilizing the NAMAS approved calibration laboratory.
